2007 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion for left-hand drive (LHD) on 2007 Cadillac CTS?
A: To replace the Rack And Pinion with left-hand drive (LHD) began by installing Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640), to the Steering Column. Take out the front tires and wheels and then remove the front air deflector. Make sure the wheels of the vehicle lie in the straight ahead and the Steering Column is at lock to avoid breaking the Rack And Pinion and intermediate shaft. Next strip off the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt and rise the linkage of intermediate shaft from the Rack And Pinion. Remove outer tie rod nuts and use steering linkage and tie rod puller (J 24319-B) to remove outer tie rod from steering knuckles. You can remove the Rack And Pinion return hose off the Rack And Pinion return port. Hang a drain pan beneath the vehicle and remove the Rack And Pinion inlet and outlet pipes/hose by first detaching the Rack And Pinion inlet pipe/hoses retainer bolt and Rack And Pinion bolts. Take out the Rack And Pinion through the left wheel opening and move the outer tie rods if changing Rack And Pinion. For installation, insert the new Rack And Pinion into the left wheel aperture and fix the Rack And Pinion bolts after continuing to fasten to 95 n.m (70-lb ft). Mount the Rack And Pinion inlet pipe/hose retainer bolt and tighten it to its tightening torque of 9 n.m (80 lb in) and then mount the stabilizer shaft. Important: install new seals on the inlet and outlet pipes/hoses of the Rack And Pinion, attach the pipes/hoses to the Rack And Pinion and tighten the fittings to 30 n.m (22 lb ft). After that, reconnect the variable effort steering electrical connector, work in driving wrench the outer Tie Rod End to the steering knuckles, then tighten the outer tie rod nuts to 70 n.m (52 lb. Ft.) if required. Mount the intermediate shaft to the Rack And Pinion, and tighten the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Lastly, refit the front air deflector, tires, and wheels, also remove the j 42640 from the Steering Column, also bleed the Rack And Pinion system, and adjust the front toe.
