Cadillac CTS Rack And Pinion Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion in a rear-wheel drive on Cadillac CTS?
A: In order to replace the Rack And Pinion of a rear-wheel drive vehicle begin by installing the engine support fixture. First detach the front air deflector and position drain pans underneath the vehicle when necessary. Disconnect the lower intermediate Steering Shaft from the Rack And Pinion until you remove the steering linkage outer tie rods from Steering Knuckles and lower Control Arms from steering knuckles. Unbolt both power steering Rack And Pinion inlet tube bracket and all frame connection points that hold the inlet and outlet hoses before separating these hoses from the Rack And Pinion assembly. The installation process requires jackstand support of the front frame along with bolt removal from left and right side engine mounts and disruption of any electrical harnesses connected to the front frame and disconnection of the power steering Rack And Pinion solenoid electrical connector. A hoisted vehicle should slowly rise after removing front frame bolts until adequate space becomes available to extract the Rack And Pinion. Unglue the Rack And Pinion nuts and bolts and extract the Rack And Pinion from the front frame. To install the Rack And Pinion position it at the front frame before you place Rack And Pinion nuts and bolts in position and tighten them to 85 n.m (63 lb ft). Start mounting the engine bolts manually before installing front frame bolts on this step. Once installed, torque the engine mount bolts and restore power steering Rack And Pinion solenoid electrical connectivity along with front frame electrical harnesses. Reinstall the power steering inlet pipe bracket bolt with a torque of 22.5 n.m (17 lb ft). After attaching hose fasteners to the frame you must link lower control arms with steering knuckles before attaching steering linkage outer tie rods to steering knuckles. After cleaning off any remaining fluid from the lower intermediate Steering Shaft reconnect it to the Rack And Pinion while reinstalling the front air deflector. As a final step remove the engine support fixture before filling and bleeding the power steering system and performing front toe adjustment.
