    Q:
How to replace the Rack and Pinion on a left-hand drive (LHD) on Cadillac CTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the power steering Rack And Pinion on a left-hand drive (LHD) vehicle, do the following: replace the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) with the one attached to the Steering Column. Lift the vehicle up and then take the front tires and wheels and front air deflector off. Make sure that the wheels are straight ahead and the Steering Column is in the lock status before disconnecting the intermediate shaft from the Rack And Pinion in order to avoid damage. Configure the intermediate shaft by removing the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt and separate the intermediate shaft from the power steering Rack And Pinion. Next, disengage the outer tie rod retaining nuts and use the steering linkage and tie rod puller (J 24319-B) to remove the outer tie rod from the steering knuckles. If necessary, disengage the variable effort steering electrical pole from the power steering Rack And Pinion, then pull out the stabilizer shaft. Drain off the power steering and place a drain pan underneath the vehicle then disconnect the power steering Rack And Pinion pressure and return hoses, unfasten the power steering pressure hose retaining bolt and the power steering Rack And Pinion mounting bolts. Pull out the power steering Rack And Pinion from the left wheel opening and remove the outer tie rods in replacing the gear. For installation, position the new power steering Rack And Pinion through the left wheel opening and tighten the mounting bolts to 95 nm (70 ft. Lbs. Std.). Connect the power steering pressure hose to the Rack And Pinion retaining bolt and thoroughly tighten to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.), and mount the stabilizer shaft. Make sure to install new seals of the power steering pressure and return hose by connecting them to the power steering Rack And Pinion and tighten to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). If available, reconnect the variable effort steering electrical connector, then installation of the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckles and lock using nuts to 70 nm (52 ft. Lbs). Connect the intermediate shaft back on the power steering Rack And Pinion, and on the lower pinch bolt and secure it to 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.). Finally, install the front air deflector, tires and wheels and lower the vehicle, remove Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640), bleed power steering system and adjust front toe.
