2007 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The first step for replacing a thermal expansion valve (TXV) is to recover all refrigerant. The first step requires removal of the condenser tube and evaporator hose from the TXV followed by their disposal along with the seal washers. You must first use tools to remove both TXV bolts then extract the TXV valve itself while discarding all existing seal washers. The installation process starts with installing seal washers onto evaporator core fittings before putting in the TXV. Tighten the TXV bolts with a torque of 7 N.m corresponding to 62 pound inch. The installation procedure starts by adding fresh sealing washers to the condenser tube and evaporator hose fittings and ending with their attachment to the TXV. Fasten the TXV nut while tightening it to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). The refrigerant system should be evacuated and charged while conducting a leak test on fittings using the Halogen Leak Detector (J39400-A).
