2006 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Recovery of refrigerant should be the first step when replacing a thermal expansion valve (TXV). Remove the condenser tube and evaporator hose from the thermal expansion valve followed by seal washer disposal. Begin by unplugging the TXV bolts to extract the part along with disposing unwanted seal washers. New seal washers go onto the evaporator core fittings before you put on the TXV for installation and fasten the TXV bolts to a torque of 7 N.m (62 lb in). Follow the installation with new sealing washers mounted on condenser tube and evaporator hose fittings before connecting the TXV to its components. Close the installation with the TXV nut then tighten it until it reaches 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Refrigerant system evacuation and charging processes must occur after installation before executing a fitting leak test with the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A).
