2006 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Clutch assembly on 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Start by obtaining the following tools for compressor clutch assembly replacement: you need the universal spanner wrench (J 37872) alongside snap ring pliers (J 6083) to complete this job. Universal spanner wrench (J 37872) and snap ring pliers (J 6083). Start by taking off the compressor and throwing out the compressor clutch plate bolt while using the universal spanner wrench (J 37872) to prevent the compressor clutch plate from rotating. Fit three 5/16 x 1 inch bolts into the holes where the adjustable dowels used to be on the universal spanner wrench (J 37872). Start by taking out the compressor pulley snap ring with the snap ring pliers (J 6083) then proceed to remove the compressor pulley. Last step is to detach the compressor clutch plate from the compressor before taking out the compressor clutch plate bolt. The snap ring pliers (J 6083) must be used a second time to both remove the compressor clutch coil snap ring along with the compressor clutch coil. Before installing the clutch plate begin by cleaning the m6x1.0 threaded bolts with a tap then remove all debris through compressed air blowouts. After applying compressor clutch coilsnap ring installation through j 6083 snap ring pliers the clutch coil receives deployment. The compressor pulley installation requires the snap ring pliers (J 6083) to secure the ring alongside the pulley. Install the compressor clutch plate after placing a 0.4 mm (0.016 in) air gap shim that received a small oil application into the clutch drive plate. Use the shims to measure the pulley and drive plate separation until a 0.3-0.6 mm (0.012-0.024 in) air gap forms while ensuring the drive plate stays clear of the pulley during rotation. Use the universal spanner wrench (J 37872) to secure the compressor clutch plate stationary before tightening the clutch drive plate bolt to 12 n.m (9 lb ft). Apply colored adhesive to a minimum of five threads on the new bolt. Reinstall the compressor while using the leak test tool (J 39400-A) to perform a fitting leak test.
