2006 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The replacement of Evaporator core begins by extracting the hvac module from the vehicle before using a small chisel to remove the Heater Core cover heat stakes. You should begin by taking out the Heater Core then unsnap and open the passenger compartment filter door followed by removing the lower hvac case screws before you can remove both components along with the Evaporator core. Before installing the new Evaporator core users should add polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oil while using new seal washers on the Evaporator core fittings and thermal expansion valve (TXV) along with its bolts that need to be tightened to 7 n.m (62 lb in). Set the orifice plate correctly on the Evaporator core and place it inside the hvac module assembly before seating the lower hvac case properly and tightening its screws to 1.8 n.m (15 lb in). Secure the passenger compartment filter door while inspecting the Heater Core foam seal present on the lower hvac case. If the seal shows damage, install kent industries adhesive black foam tape (P/N 46480) or equivalent to replace the seal. Install the Heater Core inside the hvac module while placing the Heater Core cover leading to final tightening of the screws to 1.8 n.m (15 lb in). Mount the hvac module back into the vehicle while performing pressurized evacuation followed by refrigerant recharging before conducting leak detection on all the fittings with the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). Complete the task by connecting the negative Battery Cable and adding needed fluid to the cooling system.
