2005 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The first step to replace a thermal expansion valve (TXV) requires recovery of refrigerant. You should remove the condenser tube and evaporator hose from the TXV before discarding the seal washers. After extracting the two TXV bolts you need to pull out the TXV unit with all items being placed in the discard pile. Begin by mounting fresh seal washers on the evaporator core fittings before installing the TXV along with securing its bolts to a torque of 7 N.m (62 lb in). Secure different sealing washers to both condenser tube and evaporator hose fittings before returning the condenser tube and evaporator hose to their position on the TXV. When finished install the TXV nut and torque it to a value of 20 N.m (15 lb ft). The installation process must be followed by evacuating then charging the refrigerant system while conducting a Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) test on the fittings.
