2007 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intake camshaft and lash adjusters on 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The process to replace intake camshaft and lifters starts with removing both the camshaft cover and the upper Timing Chain Guide. Install a sprocket holding tool (J 43655) then remove both the intake and exhaust camshaft sprocket bolts before discarding them in the end. Use a marker to assign positions to the caps of both camshaft sprockets before moving them forward. Unscrew each bolt on each camshaft cap one turn until the camshaft springs lose tension and then extract the caps followed by the intake camshaft itself together with its roller followers and hydraulic lash adjusters. Before putting the components together apply lubricant to the valve tips first before placing the hydraulic lash adjusters and the camshaft roller followers onto the valve train mechanics with proper alignment notch orientation to the camshaft sprocket position. Install the intake camshaft along with camshaft caps while tightening the camshaft cap bolts by 3 turns in increments before applying a final torque of 10 n.m (89 lb in). Put 3.5 mm (0.138 in) sealant on the rear intake camshaft cap before installing its bolts to a torque of 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Next the engine worker should place the camshaft sprockets on their respective camshafts then torque down the new camshaft sprocket bolts before removing the sprocket holding tool (J 43655). You should finish the procedure by installing the camshaft cover after tightening the upper Timing Chain Guide with 10 n.m (89 lb in) torque and tightening camshaft sprocket bolts to 85 n.m (63 lb ft) with an additional 30-degree turn.
