2007 Chevrolet Equinox Steering Knuckle Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on 2007 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: To replace the Steering Knuckle, lift and support the vehicle, remove the tire and wheel and take away the wheel bearing/hub assembly. Make sure that the stabilizer link ball stud won't rotate before removing the link nut, and pull the nut off at that point, and detach the stabilizer link from the entire strut assembly. Relax the Steering Knuckle to strut bolt and nuts off, pull and dispose farther down ball joint cotter string, and loosen ball stud nut plane with its summit (Ball Stud). With the help of ball joint separator (J-42188-B), separate the lower ball joint from the Steering Knuckle, and eliminate lower Control Arm and nut. Do not pry the ball stud from the Steering Knuckle with a pickle fork or wedge type tool to avoid damaging the seal or bushing. Then, the Tie Rod and the Steering Knuckle to strut bolts and nuts need to be removed, thrown away are the bolts and nuts. For installation, align the Steering Knuckle to strut assembly and loosely bolt and nut the strut to Steering Knuckle. Insert the lower ball joint stud into the Steering Knuckle and install the ball stud nut with the use of the sa9140e and tighten the same up to 40 n.m (30 lb in). Tighten the strut to Steering Knuckle bolts and nuts, making sure not to loosen the castle nut for cotter pin installation, and tighten to 180 n.m (133 lb ft). Tighten the castle nut to the point that it would hold for cotter pin installation such that only cotter pin does not touch the Wheel Speed Sensor or drive axle, and install a new one. The Tie Rod has to be installed in such a way that stabilizer link ball stud should bracket and while installing the link nut then, stabilizer link to the strut assembly and tighten the nut with a torque of 65 n.m (48 lb ft). Lastly, install the wheel bearing/hub assembly as well as tire and wheel, lower the vehicle, and do a wheel alignment.
