2007 Chevrolet Express 2500 Neutral Safety Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on the 4L60-E/4L65-E/4L70-E automatic transmission on 2007 Chevrolet Express 2500?
A: Begin by applying the parking brake while shifting into neutral gear for the replacement of the park/neutral position switch on 4l60-e/4l65-e/4l70-e automatic transmissions. Start by jacking up the vehicle and taking off the retaining nut that attaches the transmission control lever to its manual shaft and then continue with lever removal. After that, remove the transmission control lever. Disconnect electrical connectors from the switch before removing its bolts that attach it to the transmission and slide the switch off the manual shaft. File down the manual shaft's outer edge to eliminate burrs since the switch seems resistant to easy removal. To install the switch hub flat sections should overlap manual shaft flat sections before gently moving the switch onto the shaft until transmission bosses make contact with the mounting bracket. A new switch contains built-in positive assurance brackets which eliminate the requirement for the neutral position adjustment tool during installation. Position the neutral position adjustment tool (J 41364-A) on the switch making sure tool slots match up with the tabs before tightening the two transmission bolts finger tight. Use the tool to turn it so that the upper locator pin matches the switch slot before tightening bolts to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Take away the adjustment tool along with any remaining positive assurance bracket. Securely fasten the switch to the transmission by installing the electrical connectors first then attaching the transmission control lever to the manual shaft using the nut to a torque setting of 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Finally, lower the vehicle and check the switch for proper operation, ensuring the engine starts only in the p (Park) or n (Neutral) positions; the switch needs replacement if it fails to function properly.
