2007 GMC Canyon Crankshaft Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal and housing on 2007 GMC Canyon?
A: The maintenance process starts by taking out the Flywheel before dislodging the Oil Pan's 2 bolts which hold the crankshaft rear oil seal housing in place. Install two bolts into the threaded iron holes of the crankshaft rear oil seal housing until they function as jack screws. Then tighten these bolts evenly to free up the housing from both the engine block and Oil Pan. The crankshaft rear oil seal housing needs removal along with its 2 jack screw hole bolts while being careful not to enable damage to the seal bore. A hammer and a punch tool should be used to extract the crankshaft rear oil seal from its crankshaft rear oil seal housing before throwing out the seal. A thorough cleaning process follows engine block and Oil Pan sealing surface along with the crankshaft rear oil seal housing. A 3 mm (0.12 in) bead of sealer should be applied to three distinct surfaces: crankshaft rear oil seal housing meeting the engine block and crankshaft rear oil seal housing meeting the Oil Pan as well as the Oil Pan surface adjoining the housing. Position the crankshaft rear oil seal housing by fitting it to the right alignment dowel against the engine block after tilting the left side slightly upward then align it to the left alignment dowel before pressing it into place. Use 10 n.m (89 lb in) torque on the crankshaft rear oil seal housing bolts and the 2 Oil Pan bolts after their correct installation. The crankshaft rear oil seal lip needs a light application of clean engine oil before position of the plastic installation sleeve onto the crankshaft before installation with the rear seal installer (J 44215) through the driver handle (J 8092) using a hammer to reach the housing bottom. Finally, install the Flywheel.
