2008 Buick LaCrosse Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace Rear Disc Brake Pads (JL9) for Optimal Brake Pad Performance on 2008 Buick LaCrosse?
A: Before replacing the rear disc brake pads (JL9) you should check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. Lower the fluid amount when the current level is beyond the midpoint between maximum and minimum limits. Place the vehicle on stands while you remove both the rear tire and wheel unit. Secure the brake rotor in place using a single tight handlug nut while holding the caliper piston compressed with a c-clamp . Pull off the upper caliper bolt while guarding the pin boot and suspend the brake caliper with mechanic wire to protect the flexible brake hose. Droop the caliper to reach underneath without taking it off and take both brake pads and their 2 retention clips from the stroker bracket. Test the caliper mounting hardware and dust boot for damage then replace anything that is not usable. Test the caliper bolts for rust damage then include new replacement parts in your plan. Begin the process by pushing the caliper piston down with a c-clamp and protective pad layer. Put the 2 retainers onto the caliper bracket following the proper wear sensor placement on the outside pad. Insert the pads through the caliper bracket then raise the caliper over them and add silicone grease to the bolt and bolt boot. Install the upper caliper bolt at 44 n.m (32 lb ft) torque setting. Lower down the vehicle after placing the wheel and tire back on while keeping the rotor marks lined up. When the engine is not running press the brake pedal to 2/3 of its range and relax it slowly. Press the brake pedal two times during each 15-second period to set the brake caliper pads and pistons in their correct position. Complete the system by topping up the brake fluid to its needed mark while gently working the brakes to break in the pads and rotors.
