2008 Buick Lucerne Fan Shroud Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fan shroud (L26/3.8L) on 2008 Buick Lucerne?
A: Replacements of the Fan Shroud on l26/3.8l vehicles begin with disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery. The first step involves taking out the condenser and upper tie bar after draining the cooling system water. Before proceeding with replacing the Fan Shroud (L26/3.8L) remove the front air deflector while disconnecting the transmission oil cooler pipe retaining bolts. Prior to disconnecting the Radiator inlet hose you should lower the vehicle and adjust its position using hose clamp plier (J 38185). Toward the rear side of each transmission oil cooler line cap is the opening for accessing the Radiator connections. Remove both transmission oil cooler lines. The wiring harness electrical connectors of the cooling fan motors should be disconnected while unclipping the harness from the Fan Shroud. Caution is advised to avoid damaging lower attachment points that connect the Fan Shroud with the Radiator while removing the Fan Shroud mounting bolts. The full Fan Shroud removal requires users to move it left before pulling upward on its right side followed by a second upward pull to complete the operation. Installation of the cooling fan motors should start first when changing the Fan Shroud assembly while maintaining proper care of the lower attachment points. Place the Fan Shroud assembly behind the Radiator with proper alignment before you install Fan Shroud mounting bolts which need to be tightened to 6 n.m (53 lb in). Connect each electrical connector of the wiring harness to the fan motors before installing the retaining clips to their positions on the Fan Shroud. The transmission oil cooler pipe must be inserted into the Radiator quick connect fitting until the "click" sound activates and the plastic cap should then cover the joint. Put the Radiator inlet hose in place while using hose clamp plier (J 38185) for a proper installation of the Radiator inlet hose clamp. Raise the vehicle and attach transmission oil cooler pipe retaining bolts to the Fan Shroud at 6 n.m (53 lb in). You can relocate the outlet hose through the Radiator with aid from hose clamp plier (J 38185). The front air deflector installation should follow lower vehicle placement before installing the upper tie bar and condenser. Add transmission fluid while connecting the black wire of the battery and check the transmission fluid amount.
