2008 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Transfer Oil Pump Inlet Screen and Pipe Seal on the 4T80-E Automatic Transaxle on 2008 Buick Lucerne?
A: A mechanic should begin the transfer Oil Pump inlet screen and pipe seal replacement operation by elevating the vehicle and implementing supporting techniques. A drain pan should be positioned under the transmission bottom to collect leaking fluid. Most service procedures do not require draining the Torque Converter but removal of the side cover Drain Plug is needed after bottom pan removal to complete fluid drainage. Begin by loosening the bottom pan bolts before draining all fluid in the pan and then removing the pan along with its seal. Replace the bottom pan if any dents or nicks appear on its sealing surface yet the pan seal can be re-used unless damage weakens the sealing surface. To achieve proper sealing the service technician needs to clean and dry both the bottom pan and case sealing surfaces. Additionally the bolts and tapped holes in the case must also be clean and dry. Use a small screwdriver to remove the scavenger screen seals on the left/right side of the case while being cautious to protect the case integrity. Fit new left and right scavenger elements and screens before reattaching the bottom pan with its seal and bolts that should be tightened by hand. The correct order when tightening pan bolts starts with 3 n.m (27 lb in), then 6 n.m (53 lb in), and ends with 12 n.m (106 lb in). Add new dexron(R) vi transmission fluid to the lower vehicle until it reaches the proper level.
