2009 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Transfer Oil Pump Inlet Screen and Pipe Seal on the 4T80-E Automatic Transmission on 2009 Buick Lucerne?
A: Begin by carrying out the replacement of the transfer Oil Pump inlet screen and pipe seal for the 4t80-e automatic transmission by properly raising and supporting the vehicle. Your transmission bottom pan drain pan should lie underneath to collect fluid because taking out the bottom pan removes fluid from only part of the transaxle system while Torque Converter and side cover retain the rest of the fluid. Begin by draining the pan fluid when you loosen all bolts from the bottom pan. Continue to extract the bottom pan bolts together with the pan and full seal assembly. Check the bottom pan sealing surface for any deformations or punctures; replacement is necessary but the seal can be used again unless the sealing surface shows damage. Clean both surfaces of the bottom pan while keeping them dry to achieve a secure seal which requires also that bolts and tapped holes should be free of debris before torquing. To prevent damage to the case while removing the left or right scavenger screens and seals employ a small screwdriver. Install new left and right scavenger seals and screens onto the scavenging area before fixing the bottom pan and its seal, bolts and performing a light initial tightening. Caution is advised regarding fasteners. The sequence for tightening pan bolts starts as 3 nm (27 lb in) then 6 nm (53 lb in) before reaching 12 nm (106 lb in). Refill the transmission with dexron(R) vi fluid according to the required level while the vehicle is at its lowest position.
