Q: How to replace the engine oil and oil filter on 2008 Buick Lucerne?
A: The first step to replace engine oil and Oil Filter begins with vehicle elevation and support during operation. A drain pan should be positioned under the Oil Pan Drain Plug while you unscrew the plug so the oil can drain totally. You should clean and inspect the Drain Plug and replace it if needed. At the same time check the Oil Pan sealing surface and replace the Oil Pan if necessary. Reinstall the Drain Plug into its proper position but ensure to achieve only snug engagement. Place a proper drain pan beneath the Oil Filter after which remove the filter while ensuring the gasket remains on the old filter. In case the gasket is not present on the adapter, remove it. The installation of a new Oil Filter requires engine oil application to its gasket followed by a tightening phase to 3/4 to 1 full turn after the gasket meets the adapter. Finish tightening the Drain Plug of the Oil Pan to 30 n.m (22 lb ft) before removing the pan positioned under the vehicle for lowering it. Pour new engine oil into the mechanical system first followed by engine start to check for any liquid leakage. You should shut off the engine after startup and let the oil flow back into the pan for an additional periods of time. Return the oil level indicator to its place on the tube after wiping its end with a towel while fitting its handle to meet the upper part of the tube. Check the oil level by pulling out the indicator but maintaining its tip downward position. Check the oil level and fix it through oil removal or addition before checking for oil leakages.
