- Q: How to replace the starter motor (RPO L26/3.8L) on 2008 Buick Lucerne?A: Starting the replacement of a Starter motor (RPO L26/3.8L) requires disconnecting first the negative Battery Cable. After vehicle support and transmission brace removal proceed with Starter motor installation. The first step involves removing the transaxle converter cover bolt together with the transaxle converter cover. Begin by disconnecting the following three electrical components: Starter solenoid "s" terminal nut, engine harness terminal, Starter solenoid "bat" terminal nut. Then disconnect the Starter cable terminal. Disassemble the Starter motor by removing its bolts before extracting the component. Place the Starter motor directly onto the engine and tighten each bolt to 43 n.m (32 lb ft). Connect the Starter solenoid "bat" terminal nut and Starter cable terminal while tightening each to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Secure the engine harness terminal to its fitting and the Starter solenoid "s" terminal nut with torque at 2.3 n.m (20.5 lb in). Reinstall the transaxle converter cover along with its bolt. Secure this bolt to 7.5 n.m using torque settings (66 lb in). After lowering the vehicle you must reinstall the transmission brace before reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
