• Q: How to replace the starter motor (RPO L26) on 2007 Buick Lucerne?

  A: Replacing the Starter motor (RPO L26) should start with negative Battery Cable removal then lifting the vehicle with support tools. First remove the transaxle converter cover bolt then take off both the transaxle converter cover. To begin installation detach the "s" terminal nut from the Starter solenoid along with the engine harness terminal and then loose the "bat" terminal nut on the Starter solenoid. Then disconnect the Starter cable terminal. Start by uninstalling the bolts holding the Starter motor before removing it from the vehicle. Position the Starter motor onto its designated engine location then torque its bolts to 43 n.m (32 lb ft). Begin installation by fastening the Starter solenoid "bat" terminal nut to 10 n.m (89 lb in). After that, secure the Starter cable terminal to the Starter. Use engine harness terminal to attach both the Starter motor and Starter solenoid "s" terminal nut while applying 2.3 n.m (20.5 lb in) torque on each fastener. Secure the transaxle converter cover by reusing its cover bolt with a specified tightening torque of 7.5 n.m (66 lb in). When the repair is complete reconnect the negative Battery Cable.
