  A: Start by removing the surge tank followed by negative battery cable disconnect before battery cable replacement. Begin by extracting the carpet before unsnapping the positive battery cable cover for repositioning it. A technician should loosen the positive battery cable bolt before doing a clean break of the positive battery cable from its attachment to the battery. Detach the positive battery cable retainer from the floor pan stud and the positive battery cable nut along with terminal from the junction block stud and the positive battery cable retainer from the rocker panel. Detach positive battery cable retainers (2, 3, and 4) from the body harness channel while removing clips (2, 3, and 4) from body harness retainers prior to removing the clip from the dash mat. Unfasten the junction block cover lock tabs at the underside of the hood before the junction block cover removal. Disconnect the nut that fastens the starter solenoid cable to the bussed electrical center (BEC). Next dislodge the starter solenoid cable from the BEC stud followed by extracting the positive battery cable from the BEC stud. The technicians will withdraw positive battery clips from engine compartment sides while they gently displace the positive battery cable grommet from its placement at the dash front. First place the dash mat flap in position from inside the vehicle so you can install the positive battery cable clip onto the dash mat and position retainers (2, 3, and 4) to body harness retainers. Fasten positive battery cable retainers (2, 3, and 4) to the body harness channel while placing retainer properly on the rocker panel. Firmly mount the positive battery cable terminal along with its nut onto the junction block stud while torquing the nut to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). Afterwards install the positive battery cable retainer to the floor pan stud. Fit the positive battery cable to the battery before tightening its bolt to 17 N.m (13 lb ft). Reposition the positive battery cable cover by shuttling it into place before attaching the negative battery cable and putting back the carpet as well as surge tank.
