2008 Cadillac DTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in the HVAC system on 2008 Cadillac DTS?
A: A Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) must be used first to recover the refrigerant from the HVAC system before replacing the condenser. Start the condenser replacement by removing the front compartment sight shield then the upper tie bar and finally the hood latch support. Start by disconnecting the condenser's discharge hose nut and discharge hose before removing the suction hose nut and suction hose. Start by discarding both sealing washers and then remove the condenser lines that attach to radiator mounting bolt together with any engine oil cooler lines located on the radiator. Extract the condenser from the vehicle while removing both condenser mounting bolts from their spot in the radiator retainer. Install the new condenser by adding refrigerant oil followed by installation into the radiator retainer where the mounting bolts should be tightened to 9 N.m (80 lb in). Extend the old condenser mounting bracket for installation of the condenser line to radiator mounting bolt. Tighten the bolt to 6 N.m (53 lb in). Reattach the engine oil cooler lines to the radiator by making sure they insert correctly and cover the quick connect joint with the plastic cap. Install new sealing washers after which fit the suction hose and its nut with a torque setting of 16 N.m (12 lb ft). Position the liquid line and its nut followed by tightening to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). You must install the hood latch bracket along with the upper tie bar before running an A/C system recharge procedure. A leak test requires the fittings to be inspected with the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) after which the front compartment sight shield must be reinstalled.
