  A: Setting the park brake along with wheel chocking is the first step when replacing the shift cable. Raise the retainer completely from the transaxle shift cable mechanism before unconnecting the transaxle shift cable terminal from the transaxle manual shift lever pin. The transaxle shift cable emerges from the bracket when you press its locking tabs towards the interior. The left closeout/insulator panel removal must happen first before disconnecting the shift lever pin from the transaxle shift cable terminal. Press the locking tabs inward following the removal of the retainer from the transaxle shift cable mechanism to free the transaxle shift cable from its bracket position. First disconnect the shift cable grommet at the cowl panel before removing the shift cable from the vehicle. Insert the shift cable into the cowl panel before seating the provided grommet. Fully insert the transaxle shift cable into its bracket until the bracket snaps while connecting the cable terminal to the shift lever pin. Reinstall the left closeout/insulator panel after installing the retainer to the transaxle shift cable mechanism. Put the transaxle shift cable into the bracket before connecting its terminal to the transaxle manual shift lever pin. The mechanic should now install the retainer to the transaxle shift cable mechanism after adjusting the shift cable.
