• Q: How to replace the automatic transmission shift cable on 2009 Cadillac DTS?

  A: The replacement of a shift cable requires setting the park brake followed by wheel chocking as the first step. The retainer must be lifted fully while the transaxle shift cable mechanism is exposed before detaching the shift cable terminal from the transaxle manual shift lever pin. To free up the shift cable from its bracket you should press the locking tabs so they retract. Open the left closeout/insulator panel first and detach the shift cable terminal from its position on the shift lever pin. Reposition the retainer from the shift cable mechanism by pressing its locking tabs inward simultaneously to disconnect the shift cable from its bracket. The shift cable grommet should be unplugged through the cowl panel before removing the shift cable from the entire vehicle. Place the shift cable through the cowl panel before positioning the grommet and sliding the shift cable all the way into its bracket until it connects firmly. By attaching the terminal of the shift cable to the shift lever pin you should install the retainer onto the shift cable mechanism. Place the left closeout/insulator panel back while you put the shift cable into the bracket and attach the shift cable terminal to the transaxle manual shift lever pin. Adjust the shift cable before installing the retainer to the shift cable mechanism.
