- Q: How to replace the rear side door handle on 2008 Cadillac SRX?A: The first step to replace the exterior rear side Door Handle is to raise the window fully. Begin by removing the door trim panel together with the rear push-in retainer of the water deflector. Keeping the door panel exposed properly you can access the outside Door Handle by pulling the water deflector away from its position. Unlock the outside Door Handle rod by opening the door latch retainer. The first step to handle replacement involves both removing the screw access plug from the outside Door Handle cap and the single screw holding that cap in place. Open the Door Handle a fraction to access the plug before raising the outside Door Handle counterbalance weight and pushing the handle outboard while moving it toward the back to uninstall it. To extract the gaskets and outside Door Handle bracket the user must push the component backward before removing the handle rod from the bracket. Install the system by placing the handle rod onto the outside Door Handle bracket before you insert the bracket into the opening space and push it ahead. Install the gaskets before raising the outside Door Handle counterbalance weight and tipping the handle back to slide it into the bracket until an audible click sounds. You should open the Door Handle only slightly to put on the cap before locking the cap with the screw and returning the outside Door Handle cap screw access plug. The Door Handle rod needs to be inserted into the clip located on the Door Latch Assembly before closing the clip. An inspection of the Door Handle functionality should occur before installing either the water deflector or the door trim panel. Place the water deflector followed by the door trim panel for installation.
