  A: The automatic transmission fluid cooler replacement process for 5l40-e/5l50-e transmissions requires initial inspection with the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) for leaks but excludes the need to discharge the refrigerant from the a/c system. Refrigerant discharge from the a/c system remains unnecessary. Access to the auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler requires removing A/C Condenser mounting bolts which allows positions adjustment of the condenser. Before proceeding disconnect both the Transmission Oil Cooler (TOC) lines and the toc line from its retainer clip. First disconnect the toc mounting bolts before removing the toc unit. You need to follow the fastener notice when you install the new toc component. Secure the toc mounting bolts at 5 n.m (44 lb in) torque. Secure the toc lines to the toc while tightening each fitting screw to 20 n.m (15 lb ft) before fastening the toc line to the toc retainer clip. When complete reposition the condenser for final installation.
