  A: To replace the Transmission Oil Cooler on the 5l40-e/5l50-e automatic transmission, begin with the use of the j 39400-a halogen leak detector to help in the process. The a/c system does not need to be drained on the refrigerant. First, unbolt the A/C Condenser mounting bolts and reset the condenser to access the auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler. Then, remove the Transmission Oil Cooler (TOC) lines from the toc and unplug the toc line from toc retainer clip. Remove the bolts for mounting toc and remove the toc. Installation involves the placement of the new toc into position followed by the installation of the toc mounting bolts and tighten them to 5 nm (44 lb in). Secure the connection of the toc lines to the toc by tightening the fittings to 20 nm (15 lb ft) and connect the toc line to the toc retainer clip. Lastly, re-align and replace the condenser.
