2008 Chevrolet Colorado Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace brake pads on 2008 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: Start replacement by checking brake fluid level remains between its two allowed marks; use a special tool to drain extra fluid if needed. Disassemble the wheel unit before wiping the front brake caliper with denatured alcohol. Secure the brake caliper in position by placing a large c-clamp above with gentle pressure until both pistons move to the brake caliper bore before taking off the clamp. Keeping the slide pins in place allows access to the brake pads. Pull out the lower brake caliper bolt then raise the caliper up to reach and take off both brake pads and their Brake Pad shims from their mounting bracket. New brake pads require new retaining clips during installation which should be applied first before placing outboard and inboard brake pads. Push the brake caliper down and attach the lower brake caliper guide pin bolt by tightening it to 40 n.m (29 lb ft). Position the tire and wheel assembly then lower the car and add brake fluid to the master cylinder until it reaches the proper fluid height range. Press the brake button gradually under pressure until it seats the pads correctly. Repeat this action when needed to properly calibrate the brake response. Press the Brake Pedal to 2/3 of its capacity gently when the engine is shut down. Hold the pedal in that position for 15 seconds before testing for proper brake response. End the process by putting enough brake fluid into the master cylinder and making sure the new brake pads are ready for usage.
