2008 Chevrolet Colorado Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2008 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: To dismantle the Oil Pan, you are supposed to remove the oil level indicator and tube as well as the engine protection shield. Drain the engine oil out. Then remove the parts to get room for the Oil Pan. In the case of rwd, it involves the removal of the power steering gear. For 4wd, remove the front propeller shaft, differential carrier assembly bushing to frame bolts, and pull the differential carrier assembly down and secure the pinion yoke against rotation. Take out the service slot plug, the nuts that are tighten the fuel hose/pipe bracket onto the transmission, and the four lower transmission mounting bolts screwed to the Oil Pan. For 4wd, uninstall the power steering gear mounting bolts and pull the power steering gear in a downward direction. Remove the engine wiring harness retainers from the engine Oil Pan, and then extract the Oil Pan bolts. Insert two bolts into the back on the threaded holes of the Oil Pan to serve as jack screws and tighten them up to release the Oil Pan from the engine block before removing the Oil Pan and the two bolts from the jack screw holes respectively. Clean and inspect the engine block sealing surface. When this Oil Pan is installed, apply a 5.5mm (0.22in) bead of sealer in the marked areas as well as a 3mm (0.12in) bead in another marked area but the sealer must not touch the oil pump pipe and screen assembly. Place the Oil Pan in relation to the engine block so that the rear Oil Pan surface meets with the rear block surface. Properly align the Oil Pan depending on the transmission is removed or installed then attach the Oil Pan bolts with a torque of 25 nm (18 lb.ft) for side bolts and 10 nm (89 lb.in) for end bolts. Secure the engine wiring harness retainers onto the Oil Pan. For 4wd, move the power steering gear to the upper side to the frame assembly and bolt the power steering gear mounting bolts on. Install the four lower transmission mount bolts and tighten to 50 n.m (37 lb ft) then install the nuts that hold holding the fuel hose/pipe bracket to the transmission tighten the nuts to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Mount the service slot plug and the required components such as the power steering gear for rwd or the differential carrier assembly for 4wd, and fasten the differential carrier assembly to the frame bolts, 152 n.m 112 lb ft, and install the front propeller shaft again. Finally install engine protection shield, oil level indicator and tube, and oil the engine.
