• Q: How to replace the front cross-member on a Z06 on 2008 Chevrolet Corvette?

  A: To replace front suspension crossmember on a z06, take the generator off of its accessory mounting bracket. Mount (J 41803) and (J 28467-B) to support the engine, then lift and support the vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies and the steering linkage outer tie rod nuts. Next, unbolt the stabilizer shaft from the same from the vehicle and the intermediate shaft lower coupling to the steering gear. Unscrew the bolts from the electronic brake control module (EBCM)/brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) bracket and replant the ebcm/bpmv together with the bracket, so that they are away from the crossmember. Disconnect the power steering gear mounting bolts and remove the power steering fluid cooler from the cross member and lift the power steering gear and support it. Take off the engine oil line hose bracket from the crossmember and after that remove transverse spring by the help of (J 33432-A). Pull off the lower Shock Absorber bolts from the lower control arms and remove the lower Control Arm bolts from the crossmember. Examine the magnesium crossmember and replace any broken or broken spacers prior to lifting the crossmember back up into place, align the dowel pins with the frame rails and engine mount studs. Replace with new crossmember mounting nuts and tighten them to 110 n.m (81 lb ft). Mount the lower nuts of the engine mount fasten the wheel speed sensor wiring radiant clips to the crossmember, and run the brake pipe and electric harness. Install the transverse spring with (J 33432-A) to the crossmember, and the engine oil line hose bracket. Apply special lower Control Arm cam bolts, washers, and aluminum bushing ferrules in the assembly stages to avoid corrosion damages. Mount the lower Control Arm to the crossmember and the shock absorbers to the lower control arms, but only tighten up the nuts on the lower mounting of the shock absorbers to 28 n.m (21 lb ft). Screw the power steering gear to the crossmember while tightening the mounting bolts to 100 n.m (74 lb ft), and screw in the bolts to the bpmv. Mounting the intermediate shaft to the steering gear then, is done after which the steering linkage outer tie rods at the steering knuckles, then the stabilizer shaft versus the vehicle, it is mounted. Replace the tire and wheel assemblies, lower the vehicle, and pull down (J 41803) and (J 28467 - B) from the engine.
