2007 Chevrolet Corvette Front Cross-Member Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Front Cross-Member with ZO6 on 2007 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: When changing the front suspension crossmember to one from zo6, pull out the generator from the accessory mounting bracket. Next, attach the engine support fixture (J 41803) and the universal engine support fixture (J 28467-B) to support the engine before hoisting up and supporting the vehicle. Take the tire and wheel assemblies off, including the steering linkage outer tie rod end stud nuts, and the stabilizer shaft. Remove bolts from the electronic brake control module (EBCM)/brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) bracket and move the ebcm/bpmv out of the path of the crossmember using a ratchet extension. Remove the intermediate shaft lower coupling from the steering gear. Disconnect the power steering gear mounting bolts and the power steering fluid cooler from crossmember, lift the power steering gear and support it. Take off the engine oil line hose bracket from cross member and with the aid of the transverse spring compressor (J 33432-A), take off the transverse spring. Loosen the lower Shock Absorber bolts from the lower control arms, detach the lower control arms from the crossmember by loosening its bolts. Put a transmission jack under the crossmember and remove the nuts from the engine mount lower. Unplug the wires of the wheel speed sensor, the electrical harness, and the brake pipe from the clips on the crossmember, then remove crossmember mounting nuts and bring the crossmember out of the vehicle. Check the magnesium crossmember for a damaged or missing spacers and replace before resting the crossmember back into its place by aligning dowel pins with frame rails and the engine mount studs. Install new crossmember mounting nuts and tighten 110 n.m (81 lb ft) and installing the engine mount lower nuts. Fasten the wheel speed sensor wiring harness retaining clips, the brake pipe and the electrical harness to the crossmember. Provide the transverse spring with the help from the transverse spring compressor (J 33432-A) and the engine oil line hose bracket. Use unique lower Control Arm cam bolts, washers, aluminum bushing ferrules for the avoidance of corrosion damage, and install the lower Control Arm to the crossmember. Bolt the shock absorbers to the lower control arms, tightening the lower mounting nuts to 28 n.m (21 lb ft). Mount the power steering gear to the crossmember tightening the mounting bolts to 100 n.m (74 lb ft), then mount the bolts to the bpmv. Mount the intermediate shaft onto the steering gear, inlay the steering linkage outer tie rod ends and the stabilizer shaft. Replace the tire and wheel assemblies, and bring the vehicle back to the low position and remove the engine support fixture (J 41803) and universal engine support fixture (J 28467-B) from the engine. Finally, install the generator, attach the negative Battery Cable, and have your vehicle front end aligned.
