• Q: How to replace the Front Cross-Member in the front suspension (without ZO6) on 2007 Chevrolet Corvette?

  A: To replace the front suspension cross member (not ZO6), start with removing the generator from the accessory mounting cross member. Next, install engine support fixture (J 41803) and universal engine support fixture (J28467B) to hold the engine and raise and support the vehicle. Take out the tire and wheel assembly next, as well as the steering linkage outer tie rod end stud nuts. If available, unplug the shock absorber solenoid's electrical connector, and disconnect the electronic suspension control (ESC) sensor links. Pull off the stabilizer shaft, remove the intermediate shaft lower coupling from the steering gear, and unbolt the electronic brake control module (EBCM)/brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) bracket, and, while helping, move the ebcm/bpmv and bracket away from the crossmember. Remove the power steering gear mounting bolts and power steering gear fluid cooler off of the cross member and remove the power steering gear off of the cross member. Using the transverse spring compressor (J 33432-A), pull off the transverse spring from the vehicle, remove the shock absorber bolts from the lower control arms, and take off the lower Control Arm bolts from the crossmember. Put a transmission jack under the crossmember, remove the engine mount lower nuts on it and disconnect the wheel speed sensor wiring harness from the crossmember as well as remove the electrical harness and brake pipe from the clips on the cross member. Finally, take out the crossmember mounting nuts and lift the crossmember downstairs of the vehicle. For installation, hoist the crossmember up to the vehicle and position the crossmember dowel pins to the frame rails and the engine mount studs and install new crossmember nuts shaking them to 110 n.m (81 lb ft). Mount the engine mount lower nuts, tighten the wheel speed sensor wire harness retaining clips, join the electrical harness, and tighten the transverse spring with the transverse spring compressor (J 33432-A). After installing the lower Control Arm on the crossmember with the following are shock absorbers tightening the lower mounting nuts to the 28 n.m (21 lb ft). Replace the power steering gear and tighten the associated mounting bolts to 100nm (74lb ft), and install the bolts to bpmv. Attach the intermediate shaft to the steering gear; attach the steering linkage outer tie rod end, and reconnect esc sensor links and shock absorber solenoid electric connector if available. Mount the stabilizer shaft, tire and wheel assemblies, lower the vehicle, and take off the engine support fixture (J 41803) and universal engine support fixture (J 28467-B) from the engine. Lastly, reinstall the generator and attach the negative Battery Cable and give the vehicle front end aignment.
