2007 Chevrolet Corvette Rear Crossmember Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rear Crossmember in the rear suspension on 2007 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The first step to replace the rear suspension crossmember requires lifting your vehicle while keeping it sustained. Separate the wheel assemblies before disconnecting wheel speed sensor harness connectors along with park brake cables from actuator levers and electrical connectors from electronic suspension control (ESC) shock absorbers harnesses when installed. Begin the project by uninstalling the rear suspension position sensors followed by stud disconnection of inner tie rod ends from the Rear Crossmember then finish by disconnecting lower control arms from the crossmember. You must support the control arms, tie rods and suspension knuckles before taking out the transverse spring. Position a transmission support fixture (J 42055) onto a transmission jack before mounting it against the transmission to provide suspension. Position the transmission jack underneath the Rear Crossmember after disconnecting all electrical harness retainers and brake pipe retainers from the crossmember. Install lower nuts on the transaxle mount before performing the installation. Use only hand tools to remove and discard the crossmember mounting nuts before extracting the crossmember. Installation requires matching frame rail dowel pins together with crossmember studs and only new crossmember nuts of 110 n.m torque value (81 lb ft). Disassemble the transmission support fixture (J 42055) from the transmission while removing the crossmember-based jack. After reconnecting electrical harnesses and brake pipes to the crossmember complete installation of transaxle mount lower nuts then install the transverse spring. You should reinstall the lower control arms along with the inner tie rod end studs to the crossmember before you install the rear suspension position sensors. Connect electrical connectors to esc Shock Absorber harnesses if present and park brake cables to actuator levers while also connecting the wheel speed sensor harness connector. The installation sequence ends with tire wheel assembly placement followed by vehicle lowering and a rear trim height measurement which may require adjustment and conclusion with a wheel alignment check.
