    Q:
How to replace the rear crossmember support on Cadillac XLR? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove replace the rear suspension support cross member get yourself the vehicle up in the air. Pull off the tire and wheel assemblies, unplug the wheel speed sensor harness connectors and the park brake cables from the actuator levers. If you have it, unbolt the electrical connectors from the electronic suspension control (ESC) shock absorbers harnesses and the rear suspension position sensors. Next, remove the inner tie rod end studs and the lower control arms from the cross member and support the lower control arms, tie rods, and rear suspension knuckles. Chuck out the transverse spring and reassemble the drivetrain support fixture (J 42055) and hang onto it to a transmission jack and fixture it to the transmission so as to support the transmission. Loosen the transaxle mount lower nuts, disconnect all electrical harness retainers as well as brake pipe retainers from the crossmember, and then set a transmission jack in position under the Rear Crossmember which has to be fastened well. With hand tools only, remove the nuts for the Rear Crossmember mounting and take out the crossmember, discarding the mounting nuts. Fixation-wise, align dowels of the cross member with frame rails and transaxle mount studs with the cross member, while using new cross member mounting nuts. Installation of mounting nuts of the new rear suspension crossmember using hand tools only and tighten up to 110 n.m (81 lb ft). Unlock the j 42055 transmission jack from the transmission as well as the crossmember and fasten all the electrical harness retainers and brake pipe retainers to the crossmember. Mount the nuts on the transaxle mount lower, transverse spring, lower control arms, inner tie rod end studs, and rear suspension position sensors. If installed, then connect the electrical connectors into the esc Shock Absorber harnesses, connect the park brake cables to the actuator levers, and attach the connector for the wheel speed sensor harness. Lastly, install the tire and wheel assemblies, lower the vehicle, measure and adjust the rear trim height if required and do rear wheel alignment.

    Q:
How to replace the Rear Crossmember in the rear suspension on Cadillac XLR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin crossmember replacement by elevating the vehicle then supporting it before taking off wheels and tires. Attentively disconnect wheel speed sensors harness connectors and inner tie rod end studs from the Rear Crossmember and the lower control arms from the crossmember. Raise and support the rear drive shafts alongside the rear suspension knuckles before you remove the transverse spring. A transmission jack must support the crossmember while you remove the lower nuts from the transaxle mount. Disconnect both electrical harnesses and connectors alongside all brake pipes from the crossmember. You must maintain support under the transaxle while using hand tools to remove the Rear Crossmember mounting nuts through the transmission jack setup. Discard all crossmember mounting nuts after you remove the crossmember framework from its vehicle position. Align the new crossmember's dowel pins to frame rail holes before positioning the transaxle mount studs to face the crossmember. The installation requires new crossmember nuts and their tightness must reach 110 n.m (81 lb ft). After taking out the transmission jack from the Transmission Pan you must reinstall all electrical harnesses and connectors before connecting the brake pipes to their retainers in the crossmember. The installation requires placement of the transaxle mount lower nuts in addition to the transverse spring and lower control arms and the inner tie rod end studs in the crossmember. The wheel speed sensors harness connector needs to be reconnected while installing the tire and wheel assemblies before ultimately lowering the vehicle.

    Q:
How to replace the Rear Crossmember in the rear suspension on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
First lift your vehicle then support it and disconnect all tire and wheel parts. Disengage wheel speed sensor harness connectors when disconnecting park brake cables from actuator levers and electronic suspension control (ESC) shock absorbers harnesses when equipped. Follow this sequence to replace the crossmember: disconnect first the rear suspension position sensors, the inner tie rod end studs and lower control arms from their crossmember attachment. Begin by supporting the lower control arms and tie rods and rear suspension knuckles before breaking free the transverse spring. Position the transmission support fixture (J 42055) onto a transmission jack before placing and securely fastening it to the transmission for support. Disassemble all electrical harness retainers and brake pipe retainers from the crossmember before using a transmission jack to position it underneath the Rear Crossmember. Secure the transmission jack in place. Use only hand tools to remove the Rear Crossmember mounting nuts then discard them. Installation requires the correct alignment of crossmember dowel pins to frame rails plus transaxle mount studs to the crossmember using new crossmember mounting nuts. Through manual operation only install the new rear suspension crossmember mounting nuts before tightening them to 110 n.m (81 lb ft). Remove the transmission support fixture (J 42055) from the transmission followed by removing the jack from the crossmember. Reinstall all electrical harness retainers and brake pipe retainers onto the crossmember before installing the transaxle mount lower nuts and transverse spring and lower control arms and inner tie rod end studs. If your vehicle includes esc Shock Absorber harnesses, install rear suspension position sensors before connecting electrical connectors to the esc Shock Absorber harnesses and attaching park brake cables to actuator levers followed by reconnecting the wheel speed sensor harness connector. After installation of tires and wheels you should lower the vehicle to perform measurements for rear trim height adjustment and complete rear wheel alignment procedures.

    Q:
How to replace the Rear Crossmember in the rear suspension support on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before you replace the rear suspension support crossmember, it starts with lifting and supporting the vehicle. Loosen and remove the tire & wheel assemblies, disconnect the wheel speed sensor harness connectors, park brake cables from the actuators levers, and electrical connectors from electronic suspension control (ESC) shock absorbers the harnesses, if applicable. Pull off the rear suspension position sensors, pull off the inner Tie Rod end studs from the Rear Crossmember, and pull off the lower control arms from the crossmember. You can then support the lower control arms, tie rods, the rear suspension knuckles and remove the transverse spring before you proceed. Mount the drivetrain support fixture (J 42055) and place it upon a transmission jack such that it is mounted and secured to the transmission, whilst supporting the transmission. Take off the transaxle mount lower nuts then disconnect all electrical harness retainers and brake pipe retainers from the crossmember after that position transmission jack under the Rear Crossmember and then fasten it. Using only a hand tool, remove nuts holding the Rear Crossmember in place and put cross member out of the vehicle and discard the nuts. For the installation, set the crossmember dowel pins to the frame rails and the transaxle mount studs to the crossmember and only use new cross member mounting nuts that have to be tightened to 110 n.m (81 lb ft). Take the j 42055 transmission jack off the transmission and the crossmember thereafter reel all the electrical harness retainers and brake pipe retainers to the crossmember. Mount the lower nuts of the transaxle mount, the transverse spring, the lower control arms, and inner Tie Rod end studs to the crossmember and then the rear suspension position sensors. Connect electrical connectors to the esc Shock Absorber harnesses, park brakes cables to the actuator levers and the wheel speed sensor harness connector. Lastly, install the tyre and wheel assemblies lowering the vehicle, measure and adjust the rear trim height if necessary and do rear wheel alignment.
