2004 Cadillac XLR Rear Crossmember Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rear Crossmember in the rear suspension on 2004 Cadillac XLR?
A: In order to replace the rear suspension crossmember, firstly, lift and support the vehicle and take off the tire and the wheel assemblies. Then disconnect the wiring connectors on the wheel speed sensors, the inner tie rod end from the Rear Crossmember, and the lower control arms from the crossmember. Support the rear drive shafts and rear suspension knuckles and then take out the transverse spring. With the use of a transmission jack nous support the crossmember and we remove its transaxle mount lower nuts. Remove all electrical harness and connectors, and the brake pipes from the crossmember. With the transmission jack still in place, support the transaxle and with handtools only, remove the Rear Crossmember mounting nuts before removing crossmember from vehicle and discarding the nuts. To install, set the crossmember back onto the vehicle, aligning the dowel pins to the frame rails as well as the transaxle mount studs to the crossmember. It is also important to use new crossmember mounting nuts that should be fixed with hand tools only and with a pressure of 110 nm (81 ft. Lbs.). Once off with the transmission jack from the Transmission Pan, hook up all the electrical harness and connectors, attach the brake pipes to the retainers, mount the lower nuts onto the transaxle mount and crossmember the transverse spring. Retorque the lower control arms and inner tie rod end studs to the cross member and the wheel speed sensors harness connector, and reinstall tire and wheel assemblies, and lowering the vehicle is finally done.
