2004 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear wheel bearing and hub on 2004 Cadillac XLR?
A: You need to lift the vehicle and place support under it before taking off the tire and wheel set for rear Wheel Bearing and hub replacement. Disconnect both the wheel speed sensor harness connector and the esc rear position sensor link. Disconnect the power brake caliper from the rotor to access the shock absorber esc connector unit. Detach the suspension knuckle from the Tie Rod End and take out all elements around the Spindle Nut. After taking the upper Control Arm apart from the suspension knuckle you must disconnect the suspension knuckle from the lower Control Arm ball joint stud. Take the suspension knuckle from the vehicle first and then remove wheel hub mounting bolts before extracting the hub and bearing assembly from it. Make sure the wheel hub and bearing assembly properly fits the suspension knuckle before tightening wheel hub mounting bolts to 130 nm (96 ft. Lbs.). Place the suspension knuckle onto the top and bottom control arms by attaching it to their ball stud assemblies. Secure the Spindle Nut with its washer and retainer in place after fitting the suspension knuckle. Attach the Tie Rod End stud to the knuckle. Put back the brake rotor and caliper before adding the wheel speed sensor connector to the shock absorber esc connector and restocking the esc rear position sensor link. Set the tire and wheel unit onto the vehicle and bring it back to ground level.
