  • Q: How to replace the Rear Crossmember in the rear suspension support on 2008 Cadillac XLR?
    A: In order to replace the rear suspension support crossmember, start by lifting and stabilizing the vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies as well as disconnecting the wheel speed sensor harness connectors, park brake cables 807htxdh from the actuator levers, and electrical connectors to the electronic suspension control (ESC) shock absorbers harnesses if applicable. Remove rear position of suspension sensors, disconnect inner tie rod end studs from rear cross member, and the lower control arms from the cross member. The tie rods, the rear suspension knuckles, and the lower control arms should be supported followed by the removal of the transverse spring. Attach the drivetrain support fixture (J 42055) and attach it to a transmission jack; place and fasten it to the transmission while it is held up. Take off the transaxle mount lower nuts and remove all the electrical harness retainers and brake pipe retainers from the crossmember. Before installing the Rear Crossmember out of the car, position a transmission jack under the Rear Crossmember and secure it properly and then remove the Rear Crossmember mounting nuts manually before disposing of the mounting nuts. To install, align the crossmember dowel pins to frame rails and the transaxle mount studs to crossmember and only new crossmember mounting nuts and should be tightened to 110 n.m (81 lb ft). Take the j 42055 transmission jack off the transmission and the crossmember, and then only reconnect the electrical harness retainers as well as the break pipe retainers back in place. Mount the lower nuts of the transaxle mount, transverse spring, lower Control Arm, inner tie rod end studs, and rear suspension position sensors. Attach the electrical connectors to the esc Shock Absorber harnesses when available, park brake cables to the actuator levers and, also the wheel speed sensor harness connector. Finally, install the tire and wheel assemblies, lower the vehicle, measure and adjust the rear trim height if necessary, and a rear wheel alignment.
