2008 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear transverse leaf spring on 2008 Cadillac XLR?
A: Begin replacement of the rear transverse spring by elevating and supporting the vehicle. Before proceeding remove the tire and wheel assemblies while keeping the transverse spring safe from unintended scratches. The transverse spring compressor (J 33432-A) must be used to compress the transverse spring before removing one lower Control Arm and its transverse spring mounting bolts and retainers. Discard the old mounting bolts. When replacing the transverse spring remove it from the vehicle and uninstall the transverse spring compressor tool j 33432-a during the operation. To install a new transverse spring use the transverse spring compressor (J 33432-A) for spring compression then mount the spring to the crossmember. New transverse spring retainer-to-crossmember bolts must be installed before the retainers and new mounting bolts get tightened to 62 n.m (46 lb ft). Install the lower Control Arm to the Rear Crossmember followed by transverse spring compressor (J 33432-A) removal and tire and wheel assembly reinstallation. New transverse spring installation requires adjustment of the rear trim height combined with a rear wheel alignment procedure.
