2007 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear transverse leaf spring on 2007 Cadillac XLR?
A: Vehicle elevation plus support system activation must precede tire assembly removal to protect the transverse spring from scratching. The transverse spring compressor (J 33432-A) allows transverse spring compression before Control Arm removal and transverse spring lower bolt removal and retainer detachment. Toss the outdated mounting bolts. First, remove the transverse spring from the vehicle and detach the compressor when changing the spring. To install a new transverse spring use the transverse spring compressor (J 33432-A) to compress the spring before setting it into place on the crossmember. Before installation fix the transverse spring retainer-to-crossmember bolts with new components then position the transverse spring retainers with new mounting bolts making surebolt torque reaches 62 n.m (46 lb ft). To reinstall the lower Control Arm to the Rear Crossmember follow this procedure: first remove the compressor then reinstall the tire and wheel assemblies. New transverse spring installations require rear trim height adjustment as well as a rear wheel alignment procedure.
