2007 Cadillac XLR Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front wheel bearing and hub on 2007 Cadillac XLR?
A: Before working on the front wheel components you need to lift and stabilize the vehicle and take off the wheel and tire assembly. First unlatch the wheel speed sensor harness then take off the brake caliper and rotor from the vehicle. Pull off the stabilizer shaft link from the lower Control Arm before raising and holding the Control Arm on a jackstand. The j 42188 tool helps disconnect both the outer tie rod ball stud and lower Control Arm ball joint from their connections to the Steering Knuckle. Uninstall all Wheel Hub bolts and pull out the mixed hub and bearing system from the Steering Knuckle. Place the hub and bearing assembly into the Steering Knuckle then fasten the Wheel Hub bolts appropriately and tighten them to 130 n.m (96 lb ft). Install the steering lower Control Arm ball stud to the Steering Knuckle area and remove the jackstand. Next step is to place the steering linkage outer tie rod ball stud into the Steering Knuckle. Put back the wheel speed sensor harness connection and place the stabilizer shaft link on the Control Arm. Put the brake rotor and caliper in place afterward. Put back the tire and wheel assembly then lower the vehicle.
