2007 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on 2007 Cadillac XLR?
A: It is necessary to lift and raise the vehicle in order remove the Steering Knuckle. Lose the brake caliper and rotor, and remove the stabilizer shaft link from the lower Control Arm and disconnect the Wheel Speed Sensor electric connector. Jack the lower Control Arm with a jackstand for support. Separate the outer tie rod linkage to the Steering Knuckle using the ball joint separator (J 42188), followed by the upper control link ball joint stud, and then the lower ball joint stud, all of which are accomplished with the same tool. Once you separate the components, lift the vehicle's Steering Knuckle off from the car. For installation, screw the Steering Knuckle on the Control Arm; upper and lower, subsequently remove the jackstand. Rerock the steering linkage outer tie rod ball stud to the Steering Knuckle, side the stabilizer shaft link to the lower Control Arm, and tighten the stabilizer shaft link nut to 72 n.m (53 lb ft). Reconnect the Wheel Speed Sensor electrical connector, putting the brake rotor and caliper, and the tire and wheel assembly back. Lastly, decrease vehicle and inspect front wheel toe then adjust if foregoing is needed.
