Cadillac XLR Steering Knuckle Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on Cadillac XLR?
A: When replacing a Steering Knuckle begin by elevating and supporting the entire vehicle. The starting point consists of removing the brake caliper and rotor and detaching the stabilizer shaft link from the lower Control Arm together with disconnecting the Wheel Speed Sensor connector. Lift the lower Control Arm with a jackstand then extract the outer tie rod ball stud from the linking mechanism that attaches to the Steering Knuckle. The Steering Knuckle needs removal after using j-42188-b to separate both upper and lower ball joint studs from the knuckle. At the end of the process remove the Steering Knuckle from the vehicle. To begin installation you must attach the Steering Knuckle to both upper and lower control arms after you remove the jackstand. Place the steering linkage outer tie rod ball stud onto the Steering Knuckle while observing fastener caution requirements. Reattach the stabilizer shaft link to the lower Control Arm while fastening it to a torque of 72 nm (53 lb ft). After connecting the Wheel Speed Sensor electrical connector you must install the brake rotor along with the caliper. Put the tire on the wheel and lower the car before verifying and correcting front wheel toe alignment if needed.
