2008 Cadillac XLR Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear wheel bearing and hub on 2008 Cadillac XLR?
A: Before working on the rear Wheel Bearing and hub replacement you need to lift and stabilize the vehicle. Take off the wheel and tire before disconnecting both the wheel speed sensor harness connector and esc rear position sensor link. Remove the brake caliper and rotor first then disconnect the shock absorber esc harness connector. Differentiate the suspension knuckle from its attached outer Tie Rod End before removing the Spindle Nut locking tool and washer components. Lift the suspension knuckle off the vehicle while separating both the upper Control Arm connection from the knuckle and the suspension knuckle connection from the ball joint stud. Use a proper tool to separate hub bolts and set aside the hub and bearing when removed from the suspension knuckle. Always replace the Wheel Hub/wheel speed sensor part numbers separately because front and back parts cannot be switched between each other. Attach the Wheel Hub assembly to the suspension knuckle before tightening the Wheel Hub bolts to 130 n.m (96 lb ft). Secure the suspension knuckle first to the upper Control Arm and next to the lower Control Arm ball stud. Place the Spindle Nut followed by the washer and retainer into position. After linking the suspension knuckle with the brake rotor and the caliper you should connect the outer Tie Rod End stud to the knuckle. Complete installation by connecting the wheel speed sensor harness, the shock absorber esc harness, and the esc rear position sensor link then placed tire and wheel set before letting the vehicle down.
