2008 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in the HVAC system on 2008 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: When replacing the hvac system condenser begin by using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) to confirm the system has no leaks. The first step involves returning the refrigerant before removing both side headlamp assemblies. Roll a rope through both Radiator tabs above before securing it to the upper tie bar. Start by taking out both upper Radiator support bracket bolts and then removing the upper Radiator support brackets. Raise your vehicle while you remove retainer and lower Radiator air deflector of the system. First remove the right front fender liner before proceeding to disassemble right and left Radiator air deflectors with their retention hardware. First disconnect the liquid line and compressor hose from the condenser before removing both lower Radiator mounting bracket bolts along with their brackets. First remove both condenser mounting bolts and nuts before pushing upward on the Radiator and downward on the condenser to separate the mounting tabs. The removal procedure requires the condenser and upper seal with immediate component capping for contamination prevention. You should supply new sealing washers and install an uppers seal before adding specific pag(R) oil quantities to the condenser according to manufacturer instructions. Install Radiator air side seals to condenser mounting tabs but use the special bolt since it prevents end tank damage during installation. Use new condenser mounting bolts and nuts where you will secure them with 6 n.m (53 lb in) torque. Form the Radiator air side seals to fit within the channels of the intake air splash shields while checking their airflow position. Attach both lower Radiator mounting brackets with bolts following a torque setting of 60 n.m (44 lb ft). Connect the condenser's liquid line and compressor hose through a bolt which reaches 20 n.m (15 lb ft) of torque. Install the left and right Radiator air deflectors alongside their retainers before adding the right front fender liner and the lower Radiator air deflector with its retainers. Drop the vehicle down and free both the Radiator from the rope and the upper tie bar. Reinstall both upper Radiator support brackets with their bolts at 10 n.m (89 lb in) torque requirement before reinstalling left and right headlamp assemblies. As the final step evacuate the refrigerant system and conduct a leak test of the fittings with the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
