2009 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser on 2009 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: The first step for condenser replacement involves recovering all refrigerant from the system. First remove both headlamp assemblies before securing rope around each Radiator upper tab then knotting the ends to the upper tie bar. Start by removing both upper Radiator support bracket bolts and their accompanying brackets before lifting the car through the vehicle's suspension. Start by taking out the deflector retainers then the deflector and then proceed by removing the right front fender liner and right Radiator air deflector retainers before removing the right and left Radiator air deflectors. Disembark the liquid line and compressor hose from the condenser after which remove both lower Radiator mounting bracket bolts and the brackets themselves. Begin by discarding the condenser mounting bolts and nuts before gently pushing the Radiator upward and the condenser downward to unsnap the mounting tabs until the condenser with upper seal can be removed. Right after discontinuing use of a/c components you need to seal them off and discard the washers intended for sealing. To install the system start by uncapping all a/c components then add new sealing washers until you finish with the upper seal. Direct pag(R) oil only into the new condenser during installation. Reinstall the condenser mounting tabs by setting air side Radiator seals on them then inserting the tabs into Radiator clips while using a special length bolt to secure them to prevent Radiator end tank damage. Replace condenser mounting bolts and nuts then tighten all fasteners to 6 nm torque (53 lb-in). Swaging the Radiator air side seals into the intake air splash shields is necessary to maintain effective airflow direction. Both mounting brackets for the Radiator need installation with bolts requiring a tightness setting of 60 nm (44 lb ft). Reinstall the compressor hose and liquid line to the condenser while using the bolt to tighten its junction at 20 nm (15 lb ft). First install left-right Radiator air deflectors with their retainers then do the right front fender liner followed by installing the lower Radiator air deflector with its appropriate retainers. After lowering the vehicle eliminate the rope which supported the Radiator and upper tie bar. Each upper Radiator support bracket needs to be installed with bolts reaching 10 nm (89 lb in) while remaining free from twisting during the tightening process. The final installation includes both headlamp assemblies followed by evacuation and charging of the refrigerant system and testing for leaks with the j 39400-a halogen leak detector.
