How to Replace a Crankshaft Seal for Rear on 2008 Chevrolet Malibu?

To remove the automatic transmission in order to replace the Crankshaft rear oil seal, first take out that oil seal. The Crankshaft balancer holder (J 38122-A) should be installed on the Crankshaft balancer to keep the flexplate from rotating during the removal of the flexplate bolts and allow an assistant to hold with a breaker bar. There may be a need to remove a chamfer from the 18 mm socket edge for complete engagement on the thin-headed flexplate bolts. Remove the bolts from the flexplate and discard them if the old flex plates are to be used, due to the requirement in the new bolts. The flexplate does not have to be aligned to the Crankshaft because it is also spun independent of the Crankshaft - completely balanced. Subsequent to loosening the flexplate, scrape the thread adhesive from the holes of Flywheel bolt using a nylon bristle brush being careful not to damage the Crankshaft or chamber. Break the Crankshaft rear oilseal using a flat-bladed tool. For installation, lubricate the external diameter of the new Crankshaft seal with clean engine oil, and insert the new seal in the housing with the help of rear main seal installer (J 42067), which will set the exact depth of the seal. Install the Crankshaft balancer holder (J 38122-A) to prevent the flexplate from rotating when tightening the new flexplate bolts. Put in the flexplate and let your helper use a breaker bar to hold the Crankshaft balancer holder (J 38122-A). Tighten new flexplate to 53 n.m (39 lb ft) additional 25 degrees with the angle meter (J 45059). Finally, reinstall the automatic transmission.
