2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the camshaft on 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: Start the Camshaft replacement process by taking out the condenser along with valve lifters from both cylinder heads. After extracting the Camshaft sensor bolt and sensor you need to rotate the Crankshaft for the timing marks between the Crankshaft and Camshaft sprockets to align. Cautions must be taken during Camshaft sprocket bolt removal (206) to prevent Crankshaft assembly turn motions before removing the Timing Chain which could harm the piston assemblies and valves. Separate the Camshaft sprocket (205) before moving the Timing Chain (208) to position before you remove the Camshaft retainer bolts and retainer. Use three m8-1.25-mm x 100-mm (M8-1.25x4-inch) bolts to remove the Camshaft.25 x 100 mm (M8-1.Install three M8-1.25 x 100 mm bolts (M8-1.25 x 4.0 in) into the front holes of the Camshaft so you can extract it from the engine block before removing the bolts. Perform inspections on the Camshaft together with its bearings while cleaning the parts of both elements. Valve lifters need replacement whenever you perform Camshaft replacement. First add clean engine oil to the Camshaft journal and bearings before reinstalling the Camshaft into the engine block through the same three bolts as a tool handle. Position the retainer plate onto the engine block with the facing side facing the engine block. Make sure the gasket surface remains clean during installation. Follow up with retainer plate installation and bolt tightening at 25 n.m (18 lb ft). The Camshaft sprocket alignment hole must be aligned with its sprocket locating pin until the sprocket teeth mesh and both sprockets' alignment marks reach the correct position where the Camshaft sprocket alignment mark faces the 6 o'clock marker. To synchronize the timing marks properly you can rotate the Camshaft or Crankshaft sprockets before installing the Camshaft sprocket (205) and Timing Chain (208) and then tightening the Camshaft sprocket bolts (206) to 35 n.m (26 lb ft). Chec k the Camshaft sensor o-ring seal for any signs of deterioration along with its proper condition. The Camshaft sensor and bolt receive installation after lubricating them with clean engine oil while torquing the bolt to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). The final step includes both valve lifter and condenser installation.
