How to replace the ignition lock cylinder on 2008 Chevrolet Uplander?

In order to change the ignition switch lock cylinder, one has to disconnect the negative battery cable and turn off the SIR system. To get the lock cylinder, remove the steering wheel and together with the trim covers. Take a bent-tip awl and release and remove the old cylinder and then add the new cylinder and reassemble the components.
