2008 Chevrolet Uplander Power Steering Hose Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Power Steering Hose on 2008 Chevrolet Uplander?
A: The process of changing the power steering cooler pipe/hose begins with steering wheel positioning straight forward while supporting it to stay still and removing the key from the ignition. Secure the vehicle using a lift before removing the right splash shield below the engine. A drain pan needs to be placed underneath the vehicle followed by removal of the 2 routing clip retainers from both the rh side along with the front segment of the front cradle. The clamp should be compressed to disconnect the power steering inlet pipe/hose from the cooler pipe. Cautions must be exercised when disconnecting the intermediate shaft from the Rack And Pinion stub shaft because this action threatens the steering gear or intermediate shaft. The intermediate shaft pinch bolt allows separation of the steering gear from the intermediate shaft. Structurally support the rear part of the cradle support with a jack stand. Dissolve the 2 rear bolts securing the cradle support and lower the support to achieve adequate clearance. To start replace the power steering heat shield by removing its bolts and the shield before disconnecting the steering gear cooler pipe using a new o-ring seal and abandoning the old one. Eject the cooler pipe/hose from its installation position on the vehicle. Install the cooler pipe/hose by placing it on the vehicle then attach the steering gear fitting while using a new o-ring seal and applying 27 n.m of torque (20 lb ft). Secure the steering gear heat shield by installing its 2 bolts while tightening them to 14 n.m (124 lb in). Insert the compressed clamp onto the power steering pump inlet pipe/hose as it joins the power steering cooler pipe/hose. Lower the cradle support with the jack stand raised in the back position while you install the 2 rear cradle support bolts before tightening them to 165 n.m (122 lb ft). Proceed to install the pinch bolt onto the steering gear where you should tighten it to 48 n.m (35 lb ft). Position each routing clip retainer on the right hand side and front part of the cradle support before putting on the right side splash shield for the engine. Lower the vehicle then complete and perform a power steering system bleed procedure.
