2008 GMC Yukon Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) for RPOs LY2/LC9/LY5/LMG on 2008 GMC Yukon?
A: The replacement process for Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) on RPOs LY2/LC9/LY5/LMG starts with an area cleanup before putting the engine at risk from foreign matter. First support the vehicle while elevation is maintained before removing the CMP sensor wire harness electrical connector from its wiring harness connection. Gently remove CMP sensor wire harness bolt (705, and 738) and disconnect wire harness (737) from its location. The first step entails CMP sensor (703) removal together with O-ring seal (704). The O-ring must be checked for any cuts or damage before deciding to reuse it. The O-ring seal needs engine oil lubrication before its installation onto the sensor. Fit the CMP sensor (703) onto the front cover before putting on the CMP sensor wire harness (737). Fasten and torque the CMP sensor wire harness bolts (705, and 738) to 12 N.m (106 lb in). The engine wiring harness electrical connector must then be connected to the CMP sensor wire harness before lowering the vehicle.
