- Q: How to replace the radiator in a heavy-duty cooling system on 2009 Cadillac CTS?A: Draining of coolant is necessary before replacing the heavy-duty Radiator. The electric cooling fan assembly needs removal before you raise the vehicle for support. The technician should first unfasten lower and upper condenser mounting bolts to move the condenser aside which provides access to the Transmission Oil Cooler mounting bolts for removal. First disconnect the lower retainer pins of the side air baffle from the Radiator then lower the vehicle to expose the Radiator support bracket bolts for removal together with the brackets. A door trim pad clip remover tools will let you detach the Radiator/condenser upper support structure and hose clamp pliers help you remove the surge tank inlet hose from the Radiator before moving it to a side location. The hose clamps connecting the Radiator inlet and outlet require (Hose Clamp Pliers) to release their tension for hose disconnection. Cut the upper retainer pins which attach the side air baffle to the Radiator then remove the Radiator unit. Install the new Radiator by fastening the upper retainer pins of the side air baffle and connecting inlet and outlet hoses which can be secured with (Hose Clamp Pliers). Reposition the surge tank inlet hose before you install the Radiator/condenser upper support as well as the Radiator support brackets. Reinstall the vehicle and support it before torquing the Radiator support bracket bolts to 9 nm (80 lb in). Position the lower retainers of the side air baffle then fasten first the Transmission Oil Cooler mounting bolts to 5 nm (44 lb in) torque followed by the upper and lower condenser mounting bolts secured to 5.4 nm (48 lb in). After the vehicle reaches the floor position you should reattach the electric cooling fan assembly before filling the cooling system.
