    Q:
How to Replace a Heavy Duty Cooling Radiator on Cadillac CTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
Draining the coolant should be one's first step before changing the Radiator. The first step includes taking off the engine coolant Fan Shroud together with the front fascia. Raising and supporting the vehicle enables access to the mounting bolts on both lower and upper condenser that need removal followed by condenser repositioning for removal of the Transmission Oil Cooler bolts. Start by disconnecting the lower retainer pins between the side air baffle and Radiator then lower the vehicle before removing both the bolts and brackets of the Radiator support. The correct use of two tools such as (J 38778) and (J 38185) allows the removal of the Radiator/condenser upper support and creates the space needed to disconnect the surge tank inlet hose from the Radiator for moving the hose out of the way. Use tool (J 38185) to disconnect the hoses from the Radiator after releasing tension from their Radiator inlet and outlet hose clamps while also removing the Radiator by disconnecting the upper retainer pins from the side air baffle. Install the new Radiator by connecting the upper retainer pins of the side air baffle followed by attaching the Radiator inlet and outlet hoses with (J 38185). Secure water tank surge inlet hose with (J 38185) clamp before installing the upper support and support brackets on the Radiator. Attach the Radiator support bracket bolts with a torque of 9 nm using 80 lb in measurement. Next raise the vehicle for a second time to install the lower retainer pins on the side air baffle which connect to the Radiator. Then bolt down the Transmission Oil Cooler with 5 nm force (44 lbs inch) before advancing to bolt down the upper and lower condenser mounting bolts to 5.4 nm force (48 lbs inch). You should first lower the vehicle and then install the engine coolant Fan Shroud followed by the front fascia. Finally, fill the cooling system.
